The Value of Wisdom

“My son, if you receive my words,

And treasure my commands within you,

So that you incline your ear to wisdom,

And apply your heart to understanding;

Yes, if you cry out for discernment,

And lift up your voice for understanding,

If you seek her as silver,

And search for her as for hidden treasures;”

Proverbs 2:1-4[NKJV]

Through King Solomon, God tells us much about wisdom.

First, it’s not automatic…you need to receive it.

Second, it comes through God’s words….

that is the bible and preaching.

Third, you must treasure what you hear and receive.

You must be open and willing to apply what you receive.

You must also lift up you voice.

Lift up you voice and cry out to God for the understanding.

Finally, you must want the understanding.

Want it with your whole heart.

Want it as much as you want material things like silver.

And what will the result be?

You will understand what it means to have a wholesome, holy reverence for the Lord.

And you will find the knowledge of God.

What more is there?

“Then you will understand the fear of the Lord,
And find the knowledge of God.
 For the Lord gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;”

Proverbs 2:5-6 [NKJV]
